A very good and well written Vintage novel, full of the lifestyle and personality details that I'm always in search of, and has surprisingly fresh ideas on the young love side of it. But I must admit it can bog down at times because of the authors style of explaining the more common, down to earth quality's of human nature in her heroines character, a bit confusing to make sense out of sometimes, but that's it's only fault and a slight one at that since I enjoyed this read a lot and am now going back to try and find more written by this talented author.Product details

Written in 1919, "Why Joan" is a rather predictable and tame love story. If you can ignore the racism and anti-semitism that some characters display, it's not bad, especially for free.
Joan Darcy is a motherless 19-year-old girl whose bon vivant father marries an entirely unsuitable woman for her money. Will Joan ignore her scruples and marry a man she doesn't love just to escape from her floozy of a stepmother?
